Eilat, Israel
A quick stop over in Eilat was all we had time for before heading to Cairo to meet our friends. We arrived late and left early so unfortunately we did not have a lot of time to look around. The city itself is full of fancy hotels and tourist traps galore. For us it was the only way we could cross into egypt as the Taba border crossing is right on the edge of town. The ride down from Tiberius was interesting as we passed through the desert and by the salt pools of the dead sea. The salt pools feed massive salt refining factories. The air was think with white powder. The highlight of Eilat was the food. On the recommendation of some random tour organizer we stopped in at a restaurant that had a very unique and truly Israeli style. We sat down and immediately a waitress brought a huge tray loaded with all kinds of salads and pita dips. She began unloading while Anelia and I looked around with mix of panic and sheer confusion as we had no idea what was going on. A second waitress arrived and she thankfully brought us up to speed (as she could obviously see by the looks on our faces we were just a couple of clueless tourists). The salads were served with ever meal, comprised the main course, cost about 5$ Canadian and were unlimited. In other words, if we finished them they would be replaced. In addition to this we could order from a variety of meat dishes and BBQ options to round out the meal. The food was exceptional! Every "salad" was unique and delicious. Aside from that our experiences in Eilat were pretty much negligible but that was ok. We sere excited to get to Cairo and meet our friends for our tour of Egypt!
